Are you missing one tooth, several teeth or all of your teeth? If so, dental implants can be permanent, comfortable and provide a smile that rivals the original. Robert L. Schroering, D.M.D. and Kenneth D. Parrish, D.M.D., PhD, of Advanced Implant and Perio Center have placed over 13,000 implants and both give lectures in the U.S. and internationally on implant dentistry.
Sarah Beth got her perfect smile back from Dr. Schroering after she lost four of her front teeth and the connecting bone in a car accident.
Hardinsburg resident lived her entire life with teeth that embarrassed her!
Hardinsburg resident, Barbara, had lived her entire life with teeth that embarrassed her. She was surprised when her local dentist, Dr. Jim Wheeler, told her she was having a serious problem with the bones that anchored her teeth.
"I have recommended that many people go to Dr. Schroering because you should go where you know you will get the best treatment." "Having white, straight teeth is a dream come true."
Jenny Before my dental implants with Dr. Schroering, I was a little self conscious about the way my front tooth was--especially because it was over the gum and not under the gum. And so I didn’t smile as big. The 2 on the bottom...I was a little self conscious because they were baby teeth and they didn’t look right in my mouth.
Feel very confident and smiling big. "So now I can feel very confident and smiling big and knowing that (you know) my smile looks great and nobody would be able to tell that I had 3 dental implants in my mouth."
No time off work. "I was a little nervous because they had to extract 2 teeth and because I had to take some time off work. I was worried that I was going to be swollen and very uncomfortable. I was worried there was going to be a lot of time that I would have to take off work and a lot of pain." "I went right back to work. Everyone was like I can’t believe you’re back to work already. I was planning on taking the day off. And I just had one day off work and one pain pill and it was fantastic."No pain. I took one pain pill and I never had any pain after that so I stopped taking them at all even though I had the whole prescription and I went back to work the next day. I didn’t have any swelling.
"But the technology "...they did the x-rays that were instantaneous and they came up on the computer. This time he actually had the new cat scan and they could tell by just 5 min. of putting me under the cat scan whether or not you have enough bone in your teeth to do the implant. So it’s not like they have to go in there and discover it while you’re already under. They can tell you that before and if it’s going to be successful surgery for you.
"I can eat anything I’ve ever wanted to eat." "I can eat apples, I can crunch on peanuts and there’s no problem at all. And if you look at them...I mean... they look exactly like my teeth...actually better than the baby teeth that were there before. But it’s a completely normal life and better than worrying about your tooth being loose or your tooth falling off. So it’s great being able to eat an apple without worrying about my tooth falling out or coming loose."
Robert People notice. People notice because any more they say “Boy your smile’s better, your teeth look good.” which I was never told that before. Unless you really went through it you couldn’t imagine the difference.
No more sore spots. I’ve never had a sore spot since I had it done…that’s been 2 l/2 years now. I’ve never had a sore spot. I’ve never had them slip. Of course, they won’t slip. There’s no way they can slip. Life’s good.
"I can eat anything." "I can eat corn on the cob now which I never could do before. I used to have to take a knife and cut it off. I eat steaks. I eat caramel apples. I eat soft candy. Used to be when I eat soft candy your teeth would stick together. You’d have to stick your fingers in there to separate your teeth. That doesn’t happen any more. I mean nothing will pry em apart. I can even eat celery. Used to be I could bite a piece of celery and it would just string out because you could not get a grip on it. They are more assuring because I don’t have to worry about them slipping. That’s the main thing. I don’t have to worry about sore spots. I don’t have to worry about watching what I eat." Listen to the complete story.
Barbara "My teeth were very very crooked—they were very discolored. My whole mouth was, well the configuration of my mouth was just a mess—it was a disaster. And I didn’t smile, I didn’t know how to smile, I didn’t want to smile and so I mean this whole process has given me my smile back."
A dream come true."This process has been an exciting experience for me. It has been absolutely nothing shy of a dream come true. I always wanted to have healthy teeth..white, straight teeth and Mother Nature just didn’t cooperate with me."
"It was absolutely painless.""I had the procedure done. It was absolutely painless. I cannot tell you how little pain I experienced. I’ve told my story to a lot of people and they simply cannot believe that with all the work that I had done I took like l/3 of one pain pill and it just simply was an experience that just did not have any negative connotations."
Enjoy a delicious red apple. "There is no way that I would have tried to bite an apple and now I mean my greatest desire in life right now is to have one of those big caramel apples with the nuts all over it. But for me to just sit down and enjoy a delicious red apple this fall has been a real real treat. That’s wonderful. It feels good and it tastes good.
Donna Donna came to the Advanced Implant & Perio Center 2 1/2 yers ago and had a very pleasant experience. "...and I went to the Advanced Implant Center and that’s Dr. Schroering and Dr. Parrish. And when I went in, the place is marvelous. The people are marvelous. The staff is marvelous. I mean I’m so excited about it. I feel so blessed to have been lead to that place because it has changed the way I eat and the way I feel about speaking."
"There’s no pain." "...But the day that they placed the implants I went home with my pain medication you know close at hand.I thought this is going to hurt. But it didn’t hurt a bit and I was so amazed through the whole thing because it never hurt—not once.I took a half a pill that first night thinking OK if I to go bed it might hurt so maybe I should take this so if it does it won’t be bad.Never hurt a bit. That was the only thing I ever took." "There’s no pain."
"I can eat anything I want." I can eat caramel, I can eat peanuts—and that’s what’s so so fun—is the nuts. You know the nuts always got under my teeth. Well the nuts don’t get under my teeth now. You know you can eat nuts—you don’t have to go….trying to get them out from under your teeth. That doesn’t make sense to someone who hasn’t been there, but you know food tends to collect under your teeth and then it’s uncomfortable and you either excuse yourself and go wash them off and come back but I don’t have to do that."
Dr. Feeney is a practicing general dentist in the Medical Arts building in Louisville, Kentucky. He came to Dr. Robert Schroering because he is a dental professional who is aware of his options. Dr. Feeney lost one of his teeth in an accident when he was 19 years old and had a bridge placed. He admits the bridge never felt natural. Dr. Feeney's bridge lasted longer than expected but eventually it needed replacing. (The life expectancy of a bridge can be only 7 to 10 years)
When he was 19, he had accepted the bridge because, other than a partial, a bridge was the only alternative to a missing tooth. Now, as both time and technology have moved forward, dental implants are available. Dr. Feeney decided to choose the option best suited for him, a dental implant. He will no longer have to worry about getting food caught underneath the bridge or using floss-threaders to keep it clean.
Dr. Feeney explains since the dental implant has been placed his teeth feel as natural as they did before the accident, and his smile has been restored.
Patient: Rebecca Breeding
Rebecca is a 27 year old professional who is an office manager in a dental office in Louisville, KY. Rebecca has been in dentistry for 6 years. She is admittedly fanatical about her smile. She noticed pain in her back tooth long after root-canal therapy had been done. Being a dental professional, she surmised that the problem was most likely a fractured root, and her dentist confirmed just that. Because the rest of her teeth were perfect, Rebecca definitely didn't want a bridge that would damage two other teeth and leave her using floss threaders after every meal. Rebecca made an appointment with Dr. Robert Schroering. Dr. Schroering addressed her concerns and was in her words "very reassuring."
Rebecca was very concerned because she had never lost a tooth before and didn't want to be without one now. Dr. Schroering explained to her that she would have the tooth pulled, the implant placed and temporary put on all at the one appointment.
She was also very nervous about being a patient. Dr. Schroering prescribed a pill to be taken the night before that would make her feel more comfortable and have less anxiety the next day.
Rebecca couldn't be more pleased with the results of her decision to have a dental implant.
She says the implant tooth feels as natural as the rest of the teeth in her mouth, and she knows she made the best decision not only short term but also long term knowing that studies have proven implants to outlast bridges by 20 years.
"I was recently informed that my bridgework was breaking down and I needed full mouth reconstruction. My dentist said that with implant supported bridgework, we could preserve the remaining teeth and bone."
"I can't tell you how upset I was when I learned that I was about to lose one of my front teeth. I had all kinds of concerns. How would this affect my smile? Would people be able to tell that one of my teeth was not natural? I was thrilled to hear that with a dental implant, I could replace my tooth with one that looked and felt natural."
"For years I had felt like a part of my body was missing because all of my teeth had been pulled when I was younger. My mouth hurt most of the time from my dentures. I couldn't eat any of the foods that I really enjoyed. I was always uncomfortable in social situations because I worried that my dentures might fall out if I laughed."
"Now that I have implants, my whole attitude is better! I can eat anything I want. I can laugh and smile, and I feel as if a huge burden in my life has disappeared."
Patient: Ted Ogle
Ted is a consultant for a local business in Louisville. He is a loving husband and devoted father of four children.
Many years ago while on a fishing trip in eastern Kentucky, one of Ted's back teeth began to throb in pain. At first, Ted thought he just bit down wrong on a pork rind. Later, Ted would learn the sad truth. His back tooth was completely destroyed by decay and, as luck would have it, the tooth waited until he was 100 miles away from his dentist to blow up!
Back home at the dentist's office, Ted learned his root canal tooth had become brittle and had split in half under the pressure of his chewing. Ted's general dentist suggested a couple of different options. Ted could either have a bridge, a partial, or a dental implant.
Ted considered his options very carefully. Ted knew right away he didn't want a partial. His friend, Tom, has a partial and it flies out of his mouth at every U of L home game. Ted realized that if he were to have a bridge made , he would have to damage the two teeth on each side of the space in order for the bridge to be placed. Ted also realized that the life expectancy for a bridge is only 7 to 10 years. He also considered the two altered teeth may have problems because they have now been ground down to accommodate the missing tooth. Then he considered a dental implant. That is when he made an appointment with Dr. Schroering. Dr. Schroering took an x-ray and evaluated Ted's situation. He helped Ted understand the advantages of having a dental implant.
A dental implant is permanent, so it wouldn't fly out at ball games. An implant only replaces the missing tooth, so the adjacent teeth would not have to be damaged. Then, Dr. Schroering brought up another point that Ted had not thought of... A DENTAL IMPLANT WOULD PREVENT BONE RESORPTION. (That is when the gum shrinks because there is nothing underneath to hold it in place.)
As he pondered the option of a dental implant, he realized there was really no other choice. Ted had his dental implant placed 3 years ago and couldn't be happier with his decision. He admits it blends in so well with the rest of his teeth he can't tell the difference. Ted's friend. Tom, is jealous!
Patient: Nancy Evans
Referring Doctor: Dr. Don Scharfenberger
Nancy never had many problems with her teeth. Nancy had braces when she was in her 40's to straighten and correct joint pain. Then one of her back teeth needed a root-canal and crown. This treatment was successful for a while but eventually her tooth failed again, and that's when her general dentist suggested a dental implant. Nancy visited our office for her initial consultation on Feb. 4, and set up an appointment for surgery the following week.
The day of her surgery consisted of filling out necessary paperwork and having the procedure done, all of which only took approximately one hour. She spent the rest of the afternoon at home. The next day she felt as if nothing had been done.
Nancy claims to be a "big baby" when it comes to pain, but said she didn't have to take the pain medication prescribed, and would not be afraid to have it done again.
Patient: Bill Alvey
"FEARLESS BILL”
“I never even had to take the first pain pill.”
Bill Alveys’ personality lights up any room. Unfortunately, when Bill opened his mouth, things weren't so bright. Bill lost 3 of his back teeth in the 60’s during a peace demonstration that went awry. His brothers and sisters encouraged him to go to the dentist. Bill had different thoughts saying “all you have to fear is pain itself." You see, Bill had never been to the dentist and didn’t intend to go now.
As time passed, Bill got a little older, a little wiser, and married his beautiful wife. He began to be more concerned with his looks, especially his smile. His missing teeth concerned him greatly--so much so he was embarrassed to yawn or laugh. Bill heard about Dr. Robert Schroering from his friend, George, who had dental implants. George promised Bill he would not feel a thing. Bill made an appointment for a consultation with Dr. Schroering. Bill was met with a pleasant atmosphere and friendly smiles when he walked into Dr. Schroering's office. The consultation went smoothly and, believe it or not, Bill decided to have the dental implants placed.
On the day of his appointment, Bill and his mother were on time. The appointment was completed in one hour. Bill opened his eyes and asked our assistant, Carrie, when Dr. Schroering was going to get started. Carrie explained that his appointment was over and Dr. Schroering was all finished.
To this very day Bill still brags to his friends “I never even had to take the first pain pill.”
Patient: Barbara Daves
Barbara, a retired teacher and nurse, believes appearance is as important as function regarding her smile. Barbara remembers that back in the 70’s her gums started to recede due to the different medications she was prescribed. When she could do no more to keep her upper teeth, she reluctantly accepted the fact that she would have to wear a denture. After the denture was made, the weeks turned to months, and the new denture only made her more and more unhappy. The pastes and the adhesives made her nauseous.
She was afraid to speak in public. She was not only fearful everyone would be able to hear the difference in her pronunciation, but also she hadn't quite mastered the skill of laughing or sneezing yet without having her denture fly out. The idea of this happening while she was behind a podium in front of hundreds of people left her speechless. Literally, she began to withdraw from public appearances. Not only did Barbara began to shy away from her audience, but she also started to feel unhealthy saying "I'm not well nourished. I can't eat the proper fruits and vegetables due to the condition of my loose denture." Fortunately, she heard about dental implants. The actual procedure only takes a couple of hours, then the rest of the afternoon is spent taking it easy. Many of our patients go back to work the next day and, like Barbara, never take their pain medication.
Now Barbara can eat all of her favorite fruits and vegetables again, and she feels healthier than ever!
Patient: Bill Spencer
General Dentist: Dr. Charles Barrett
Like many patients, Bill Spencer has spent more time than he would have liked in a dental chair. Bill has had problems with his teeth since he was a child. In the sixth grade Bill had his front teeth knocked out in a bicycle accident. From then on it seemed as if Bill was constantly having dental difficulties. After college the two anchor teeth that held Bill's bridge in place broke, and later one of those abscessed.
Bill admits he wishes he had learned about dental implants earlier. It wasn't until a few years ago when his general dentist recommended Dr. Robert Schroering that Bill understood all of his options. In Dr. Schroering's office an x-ray was taken, Bill's situation was evaluated, and all of his concerns were addressed.
Bill had dental implants placed and feels as if he has finally found a permanent solution to his dental difficulties.
Patient: Don Marr
Referring Doctor: Dr. Sisk
Don Marr was a denture wearer. He, like so many of our other patients, said he tried two different plates before he decided to explore the option of dental implants. Don is a construction worker who has to work in high situations many times. Don said it was very awkward leaning over the side of a building trying to shout down to others while struggling to keep his teeth from falling out. Besides being uncomfortable while talking, he also was missing out on his favorite foods such as corn on the cob, apples, and steak.
When Don visited Dr. Schroering's office, he was met with a friendly atmosphere where he felt very comfortable. Dr. Schroering described his options and Don decided on fixed bridgework supported by implants.
Now Don enjoys eating his favorite foods, not having to worry about whistling or loosing his teeth, and he will never have to take his teeth out again.
Patient: Marshal Oliver
"
Enjoying more than stuffing and cranberry sauce at Christmas"
Mr. Marshal Oliver is a patient of Dr. Steve Latimer in Clarksville Indiana. Dr. Latimer recognized Marshal's problem as being a deterioration of his lower jaw bone, and knew from his professional experience that no denture would ever fit Marshal without the assistance of Dr. Robert Schroering. Like many of our patients, Mr. Oliver has diabetes and being retired for many years one of his favorite pleasures is eating his wife Nora's cooking.
Nora admits she used to have to make even the meatloaf especially soft for Marshal, and steaming the vegetables enough so he could eat them took all of the nutrients out. This is not healthy, especially for a diabetic, and Marshal was no exception.
Dr. Schroering first saw Marshal in May for a consultation. Marshal needed more room on his lower jaw and implants to secure his denture in place. An appointment was scheduled and Marshal was ready. On the day of his appointment, his wife, Nora, came with him and waited while the procedure took place. Dr. Schroering was finished in approximately 1 hour, and Nora drove Marshal home where he rested the afternoon.
Marshal and Nora said Dr. Schroering and his team of professionals treated them like family from the very first visit.
Marshal is now able to enjoy his steak without the tenderizer and the vegetables without being over cooked. Marshal is looking forward to an enjoyable Christmas meal, the first in a long while.
Patient: Rick Derthick
"First-Class Passenger All The Way”
Rick Derthick is an airplane pilot based in Louisville, KY. He is also a patient of Dr. Patti Thompson D.M.D. Rick had an accident when a teenager and broke all of his front teeth. He had them all crowned, but those crowns seemed to wear out all too soon and would have to be replaced. Eventually, one of those crowned teeth broke below the gum line. Dr. Thompson then suggested Rick have a dental implant.
Dr. Thompson explained that once a dental implant is placed, it will never decay, never need a root canal and will never fracture. Rick said he looked back over the past 20 years and realized he had gone back to the dentist every five to eight years to have those crowns replaced. Rick saw the dental implant as a permanent solution. He took Dr. Thompsons’ advice and called the Advanced Implant Center. Rick chose to have the dental implant placed, and has been very happy with his decision.
Rick would later described his appointments with Dr. Schroering's office as being treated like a “first-class passenger all the way”.
"Letter of Recommendation"
This is a letter written by a patient of ours, Mr. John French. He learned about our web-site and wanted to share his story.
Most of the time, you hear complaints of an encounter that people have had with a person in the medical field. I am writing to tell of a positive experience I have shared with a dentist named Dr. Robert Schroering. It began when, after years of having no rear teeth, I tried several plates; but they were always loose and I had trouble eating with them. My regular dentist, Dr. Robert Martin, suggested that I try implants to avoid these problems. I felt confident with his diagnosis and consulted several specialists. I had a very bad experience with one implant surgery and decided, after finding and consulting with Dr. Schroering, to entrust the procedure to him.
He did the implants surgery with no difficulty, leaving me with little pain and discomfort. He is very easy to talk to and is precise and professional in his work. He and his staff are very caring people, and I would like to HIGHLY recommend him.
I only wish I had met Dr. Schroering years ago and had the implants done by him and avoided much discomfort. THANK YOU, DR. ROBERT SCHROERING!!!
