Hardinsburg resident Barbara had lived her entire life with teeth that embarrassed her, but she was surprised when her local dentist Dr. Jim Wheeler told her she was having a serious problem with the bones that anchored her teeth.
"I was experiencing a lot of bone loss and losing the foundation for my teeth," Miller recalls. Dentures do nothing to prevent bone loss, but dental implants promote bone growth. Miller was referred by her local dentist, Dr. Jim Wheeler, to Dr. Robert Schroering at the Office for Dental Implants
Dr. Schroering's dental practice is one of the few offices in the country devoted exclusively to dental implant surgery. Dr. Schroering says, "Barbara Miller consulted with me about getting a full set of implants and then said she wanted to think about it. A few days later, she went to a family reunion where she saw a niece, also a patient of mine, who had received implants and the work was completed in two days."
The niece was thrilled with her implants, which made Mrs. Miller feel comfortable about going ahead right away with her own dental implants. "At no time was Mrs. Miller without something in her mouth [to replace the teeth that were pulled]," Dr. Schroering continues. "We sedated her and did her lower mouth first and then the upper, but she had no pain and now has teeth that feel like her own." Miller says that after her first implant surgery, her husband, Joe, insisted she take a pain pill. Though she had no pain, Miller took one third of the pill just to be sure that she could sleep. She says the only thing that was ever painful was getting over her fear of the unknown to walk into Dr. Schroering’s office the first time. "Dr. Schroering is a master of his art. He is professional and caring, and you can put your trust in him," the retired schoolteacher says. "His staff is like family to me."
"I have recommended that many people go to Dr. Schroering because you should go where you know you will get the best treatment." "Having white, straight teeth is a dream come true. Since I am in the public eye so often, how I look makes a difference. People are amazed at the difference. My implants look so natural that my husband is in awe. He is very supportive and has wanted me to get implants for a long time," Miller says. "I have never in my life been able to smile for a photo, but I'm learning now. Eating is a pleasure. I can chew with the best of them!"
